Christopher + Elizabeth’s Secret Garden Micro-wedding at Morris Arboretum

An intimate fall wedding filled with magic, meaning, and Metallica

There’s something extra special about a fall micro-wedding—especially when it feels like you’ve stepped straight into a romantic, slightly fall-themed secret garden. Chris and Elizabeth’s wedding at Morris Arboretum was the kind of day that makes you want to tuck your camera in your jacket and just watch, because every moment was so full of meaning and emotion. These two planned a celebration that was quiet, intentional, and deeply personal. From their tucked-away first look in the Rose Garden to their sunset ceremony, this day was all about connection—with each other, and with the people they love most.

A First Look Full of Quiet Joy

Christopher and Elizabeth chose to see each other before the ceremony, and we found the perfect little hidden corner of the Rose Garden at Morris Arboretum for their first look. Surrounded by seasonal flowers and mid-fall foliage, they had a few minutes to soak it all in—no one else around, just the two of them (and me, pretending I’m not there with a camera). Afterward, we ventured through the arboretum for their couple’s portraits. If you’ve ever been to Morris Arboretum in autumn, you know how magical it is—the leaves just starting to turn, golden light filtering through the trees, and endless backdrops that look like they came out of a fairytale. Every spot felt like a little secret, and every frame was filled with the kind of quiet connection that makes photographing elopements and micro-weddings such a joy.

A Sunset Ceremony in the Garden

As the sun dipped lower in the sky, guests made their way down into the Rose Garden for the ceremony. Elizabeth took the long walk through the garden and around the fountain before joining Christopher on the stone steps. There was something really cinematic about that entrance—soft evening light, fall colors all around, and that sort of stillness that only happens in a really intentional, small wedding ceremony. Their vows were heartfelt and personal, and to close it all out? Their first slow dance to Nothing Else Matters by Metallica, right by the dramatically lit fountain. Yes, I got emotional. No, I’m not sorry.

A Family-Focused Celebration

After the ceremony, we made time for family photos on the steps where their ceremony took place, capturing all the big hugs and proud tears in between. One of the sweetest parts of this day was how much it centered their family—not in a performative way, but in a deeply authentic one. It was clear how loved Chris and Elizabeth are, and how much love they pour into their people in return. Once portraits wrapped up, everyone headed off to an intimate dinner to celebrate. No reception dance floor, no bouquet toss—just cozy autumn vibes, deep connection, and a whole lot of heart.
